‘I personally left every TA place more traumatised than I was before I went in’

It might be seen as help but it’s not because you’re not in a place. It’s not home.

So for me, to get to my parents, to my comfort zones as such, to get to my family, to where home and the heart is, I had to travel two hours from where I was staying.

I had a little ass box room with old stuff. So it just didn’t feel like a room to me. I was sleeping amongst boxes. That’s what it felt like.

The conditions were atrocious. I mean sometimes the heat was too hot. It was just always on.

When I was doing concierge, one of the gentlemen there, he had a burn on his leg and I was like “Fucking hell. What the hell is that?”

He was like “It’s a burn off a radiator in one of these hostels”.

Obviously, whatever state of mind he’s been in, he’s actually fallen asleep. Well, you can picture being on the street and you’re freezing. The first thing you gotta do is hug a radiator and then he’s probably conked out.

But he’s woke up and it’s burnt half his leg. He had a radiator imprinted on his leg.

I thought that’s probably like the same fucking hostel that I was in. It was roasting. I mean you could argue that someone who’s been on the street should never complain about heat but it was too hot. It was like trying to sweat the truth out of you.

I personally left every TA place that I’ve been in more traumatised than I was before I went in. Fact. More pissed off because of the authoritarianism. The authoritarianism and the system.

That is a basic fact and that’s what hurts me most because I’m a positive person. I don’t think I was affected as much as a lot of people are even to this day.

The whole situation is just shocking.

These big changes need to be done. But it needs to be done on a higher level.
