You can’t afford to live in nice areas

Each council’s different with the local housing allowance rate, which is completely bonkers. I mean, just past this estate they’ll only pay me £300 a month. But living here, they’ll pay me £595.

So I can’t live in a nicer area because the rent is too dear anyway. So it’s social cleansing really, that’s how I see it. They’ll pay me £595 to live in a shithole but they won’t pay me £595 to live in a nice area.

They’ll pay me less so I can’t live there, basically. Which is the reason why I can’t live in Salford as well because the rent in Salford now has skyrocketed through the roof. My mate lives in a 3-bedroom house in Winton, his rent is £400 a month. It’s a council house. Next door to it is an ex-council house bought by somebody, so it’s now in the hands of a letting agent, which most of them are now that have been sold off by the council. And that rent is £1500 a month for the same property. Now who’s got that?

Even if you’re working in a decent job, you’re working just to stay in the house you’re not staying in. Because you’re paying £1500 a month for the house and all you’re doing is working. You’re not even in the house are you, you might as well rent it out yourself.

That’s just fucking bonkers, innit? All you’re doing is sleeping in the bed there. You might as well be in a bleeding tent, ain’t yeah?

The world’s gone bonkers man.
