‘If we don’t do anything, then nothing will change’

I think the council should train more support workers who are specialised so people can get back on track. What I think will be better is if people have specialised support workers. I know it’s really hard because everyone is different.

The financial support is fine but if people don’t know how to budget themselves, how will they actually survive in normal life? It’s not about getting people under control but making sure they’re taking the right steps. That’s my opinion.

Support workers will be supporting people with flats or houses. But there should be another person who will actually make sure they can budget the money in the way they should, and help them socially, and with their health and hygiene, on a day-to-day basis.

It’s not for everyone, but it can be a long journey to start doing these things again. And if we don’t do anything, then nothing will change. I’ve never seen people trying to help people in this way.

I believe if we help each other without expecting any benefits then we will have a better life. Every life should have a second chance to change. I was given the gift of having a second chance that's why I want to hear about other people's lives and support them. That's why I volunteer with Shelter, to give people a second chance at life. It's not just about getting housed, it's about getting opportunities to have your voice heard.
