Jan shares his experiences of trying to work whilst living in temporary accommodation and how his wage made it hard to live.
I was trying to work when I was in temporary accommodation. And unfortunately, I wouldn’t be able to work because the temporary accommodation cost like £257 a week.
If you’re going to work, the minimum wage for the month is like £1100 or £1200.
So if you’re going to work, then you are not able to claim the Universal Credit and the housing benefit. You’re working, so everything that you earn, you’re putting there. So, where is the reason to start to work?
The others actually can’t see it. They just can see, okay yes, all the homeless are living in the hotels. But they can’t work, because if they work they can’t live.
